Area which is (1) on the specimen and (2) to be sampled during an experiment.
The region of interest might be incoherent (i.e. random walk) or consist of a set of multiple geometric coherent parts. We recognise this definition breaks down for non-2D regions of interest. In the future we will consider defining superclass such as "volume of interest". At the moment the majority of regions of interest are 2D and this is why this is a priority term. This class could be a potential synonym to space time in EOSC ontology
