Voltage which is utilised to create an electric field that draws particles from the source.
Extraction voltage is applied to Schottky and Cold Field Emission electron sources, but not to thermionic emitters. The purpose of applying an extraction voltage is to help emit electrons from inside the source material to overcome the work function and be emitted. Gallium liquid metal ion sources also use an extraction voltage to produce ions. Higher extraction voltages will lead to higher beam currents.
